After Hurricane Irma devastated the Caribbean in September 2017, Kenny Chesney mobilized into action by creating the Love for Love City Foundation, a non-profit that has delivered water, food, medical supplies, tools, building materials and more to the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.
Irmaâs destruction also became the catalyst for Kennyâs new album, Songs for the Saints, which dropped on July 27 and has already spawned No. 1 hit, âGet Along.â
âIâve always felt like if you sit in negativity long enough, youâll become it,â said Kenny to Kix Brooks of American Country Countdown. âAnd, I heard âGet Alongâ and I went, âWow,â I mean, I needed to hear that in my own life as a person. Itâs about moving forwardâyes, itâs about getting along with everybody, but itâs also about moving forward in your life and maybe when you didnât feel like you had the strength to, you know? âCause people get stuck. I get stuck, and thatâs a big thread also of whatâs happening down on the islands because people are being forced to move forward and changeâsome are displaced, some are whatever, but look, thereâs a lot of rebuilding and people moving forward and theyâve probably, maybe found some strength within them that they didnât know even existed and thatâs why I felt âGet Alongâ was important and fit on this record.â
All proceeds from the new album will go to the Love for Love City Foundation.
